Picasso's Sausage Dog

"The sausage dog ate at the dinner table, from a plate embellished with his own portrait by Picasso’s hand, slept on Picasso’s bed and made use of a 7ft-high bronze sculpture by the artist for his own private latrine"

Time Wasting Experiment

Genius!
simple letterpress project, by Portland based artist Alyson Provax, titled Time Wasting Experiment.
I've just picked out a few and I do not even want to imagine how many minutes I’ve used up doing all of the above. So, on that note, I have a little message to send out:
Hey, Worrying… you SUCK. I’m moving on, and getting my minutes back! There. We’ll see how that goes.

Patterns

If we take yoga seriously we will practice it alot. It makes sense, then, that what we practice has a positive effect on the body.
We repeat patterns not to limit us in life, but as the musician practices their scales, we practice basic patterns so we can move freely in life. Working with fundamental patterns in yoga helps to clarify how we move and what habits we have built up.

We need to learn to distribute patterns evenly throughout our bodies. Poorly distributed forces create stresses and strains at joins, which invariably lead to pain of discomfort and increased likelihood of layering protective patterns over causative ones. When we take this approach, yoga becomes an inquiry into the way we engage through our bodies. It helps us to notice when we do unhelpful things, and, once noticed, we can gently set about letting them go.

The Chinese Checker Players

When I was six years old
I played Chinese checkers
   with a woman
who was ninety-three years old.
She lived by herself
in an apartment down the hall
   from ours.
We played Chinese checkers
every Monday and Thursday nights.
While we played she usually talked
about her husband
who had been dead for seventy years
and we drank tea and ate cookies
   and cheated.

The Return of The Rivers

All the rivers run into the sea;
yet the sea is not full;
unto the place from whence the rivers come,
thither they return again.

     It is raining today
in the mountains.

It is a warm green rain
with love
in its pockets
for spring is here,
and does not dream
of death.

     Birds happen music
like clocks ticking heaves
in a land
where children love spiders,
and let them sleep
in their hair.

     A slow rain sizzles
on the river
like a pan
full of frying flowers,
and with each drop
of rain
the ocean
begins again.

i love what Rebecca wrote...

Ed ‘41.  Let’s say he’s about 90-ish now. I think he lives just outside Milwaukee with a bunch of dogs. He likes turtles and pigs, too. Favorite food: super salty sauerkraut and dried figs. Drives an imported yellow fiat. Likes to spend his time emailing and playing basketball.

Yuki Kitazumi

Spotted the work of Yuki Kitazumi on The Jealous Curator...
"A leisurely breakfast, a trip to the circus, and then a little research on how to make my garden grow! Ah yes, that’s what my weekend would be like if I lived in the illustrations of Tokyo based artist Yuki Kitazumi."

the daily habits of joan didion

“I need an hour alone before dinner, with a drink, to go over what I’ve done that day. I can’t do it late in the afternoon because I’m too close to it. Also, the drink helps. It removes me from the pages. So I spend this hour taking things out and putting other things in. Then I start the next day by redoing all of what I did the day before, following these evening notes. When I’m really working I don’t like to go out or have anybody to dinner, because then I lose the hour. If I don’t have the hour, and start the next day with just some bad pages and nowhere to go, I’m in low spirits. Another thing I need to do, when I’m near the end of the book, is sleep in the same room with it. That’s one reason I go home to Sacramento to finish things. Somehow the book doesn’t leave you when you’re asleep right next to it. In Sacramento nobody cares if I appear or not. I can just get up and start typing.”

“Every beginner should be afforded this freedom of creativity. Courage is a key factor in every form of artistic creative process, it can best unfold when it is not curtailed too early by knowledge.”
