Do my movement and my thinking have an intimate connection? First of all, I don’t think my body doesn’t think.

dancing like the sea

Alessandra Ferri and Frederico Bonelli rehearsing Wayne McGregors' 'Woolf Works'

'Life is not a series of gig-lamps symmetrically arranged; life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end… the proper stuff of fiction is a little other than custom would have us believe it.’

– Virginia Woolf, Modern Fiction

week 18

DANCE DANCE DANCE

I'm back on this movement challenge malarkey! Missed a chunk of the year due to life celebrations, but I hope that will be forgiven...
I'm going with that celebration theme for this week and it's somewhat of a cliché...but there usually something to those oft said things so here we go...

DANCE LIKE NO-ONE IS WATCHING
thats it.

each day pick a song you love and loose control. There is joy, endorphins and giggles to be found in this challenge and those are self care musts.
On a side note i've fallen down a Michael Clarke choreography rabbit hole so its now inspiring everything I do.

study of solo improvisation

“This film documents my choreographic process, solo improvisation and how I brainstorm ideas, captured in a more filmic way to translate the patterns of movement in my head. It was made in collaboration with my friend, the director of photography Phillip Kaminiak. We have worked together on several music videos in Berlin and started talking about working on our own project. He watched my improvisations and then we selected movements that deserved more study or attention.”

-- Kiani del Valle

blessed unrest

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others”
― Martha Graham
