Libra: If you’ve been feeling a little lost, a little off-balance, a little bit out of orbit, things are going to swing back into place this week, they’re going to shift back into focus, they’re going to get sharp and bright and good again. Let this feeling carry you—spend your days outside, spend your days moving, spend your days talking and working and asking the questions that make your brain buzz and your heart sing. Trust yourself to live right this week, trust your own choices, listen to songs about solitude and songs about triumph.

Being But Men
Being but men, we walked into the trees
Afraid, letting our syllables be soft
For fear of waking the rooks,
For fear of coming
Noiselessly into a world of wings and cries.
If we were children we might climb,
Catch the rooks sleeping, and break no twig,
And, after the soft ascent,
Thrust out our heads above the branches
To wonder at the unfailing stars.
Out of confusion, as the way is,
And the wonder, that man knows,
Out of the chaos would come bliss.
That, then, is loveliness, we said,
Children in wonder watching the stars,
Is the aim and the end.
Being but men, we walked into the trees.
-- Dylan Thomas

“This is the real secret of life -- to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.”

Demonstration
between them is
nothing
a nothing that is made
and is never perfect
the sight in an empty socket at night
the everlasting decision
approaching the point of origin
the first fire
still without color
exploding inward
drawing the unlit firmaments after it

By now you must have guessed: I come from another planet. But I will never say to you, Take me to your leaders. Even I - unused to your ways though I am - would never make that mistake. We ourselves have such beings among us, made of cogs, pieces of paper, small disks of shiny metal, scraps of coloured cloth. I do not need to encounter more of them. Instead I will say, Take me to your trees. Take me to your breakfasts, your sunsets, your bad dreams, your shoes, your nouns. Take me to your fingers; take me to your deaths. These are worth it. These are what I have come for.

"Play may seem purposeless, but neuroscience research reveals that play is our introduction to exploratory learning. Our adaptive behavior stems from problem-solving in play and in our imaginary world. Chronic pain reduces our movement choices and we become less aware of how to create new, non-painful movement patterns. Moshe Feldenkrais had the insight that excessive striving impedes the goal, and recommended slow, improvisational motions."-- Stacy Barrows of Century City Physical Therapy (via here)

Play is more then just fun
Stuart Brown
is a psychologist who has devoted decades to studying play and applying
its benefits to both personal therapy and business optimization. He’s
one of the few experts who has focused his study on the role of play
throughout the life cycle. Over his career, he’s studied play in a host
of cultures and historical times, and he’s compared the play patterns of
children and adults in both human and various animal species. He calls
play a “profound biological process” and presents evidence that play continually shapes the human brain throughout our lifetime.
