“We stayed that way for a long while, until satisfaction and good sense separated us. It was when she got up from the table that I discovered, perplexed, the fate of my poem. It was printed on the woman’s back.”
—Ricardo Sumalavia, from “First Impressions”
Translated from the Spanish by Daniel Alarcón. Image credit Lina Scheynius.
To thine own self be true...
There is nothing more thrilling than a person throwing caution to the wind and deciding to be their full on weird self, especially when that weirdo decides to go fully rogue at a tap dance performance in front of an audience of adoring parents, especially especially when that weirdo is an adorable tiny human who I can only hope will one day be the inspiration for my own child.
The jazz hands! the two step! the krumping! the fierceness! She's giving it her all and no-one is gunna stop her...

Yoga guide.
Know your shit!
Read, watch, try, re-evaluate, PRACTICE.
Have the confidence to take the space and time you need, to question and experiment with what you are told and to hold back if you feel something is not quiet right for you.

Sometimes my insides feel all muddled up.
If you are ever feeling overwhelmed by stress, worry, anger or fear write down at least three situations or moments you consider to be positive. Emotions are as transient as pain; write down when you notice a feeling that feels positive to you and build up a storage space of memories of feeling good that you can call upon when there is a break in the weather...

Autobiography In Five Short Chapters
Chapter I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am hopeless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am hopeless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in this same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in this same place.
But it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
Chapter III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it there.
I still fall in... it's a habit... but,
my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it there.
I still fall in... it's a habit... but,
my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
Chapter IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
Chapter V
I walk down another street.

One to live by
One should as a rule respect public opinion in so far as is necessary to avoid starvation and to keep out of prison, but anything that goes beyond this is voluntary submission to an unnecessary tyranny, and is likely to interfere with happiness in all kinds of ways.-- Bertrand Russell
