3+4. Dewey Nielsen. His videos (and instagram) are full of gems. He's very generous with what he puts out there. Take a look.

The man.Bruce Lee had me up to three miles a day, really at a good pace. We’d run the three miles in twenty-one or twenty-two minutes. Just under eight minutes a mile [Note: when running on his own in 1968, Lee would get his time down to six-and-a half minutes per mile]. So this morning he said to me “We’re going to go five.” I said, “Bruce, I can’t go five. I’m a helluva lot older than you are, and I can’t do five.” He said, “When we get to three, we’ll shift gears and it’s only two more and you’ll do it.” I said “Okay, hell, I’ll go for it.” So we get to three, we go into the fourth mile and I’m okay for three or four minutes, and then I really begin to give out. I’m tired, my heart’s pounding, I can’t go any more and so I say to him, “Bruce if I run any more,” –and we’re still running-”if I run any more I’m liable to have a heart attack and die.” He said, “Then die.” It made me so mad that I went the full five miles. Afterward I went to the shower and then I wanted to talk to him about it. I said, you know, “Why did you say that?” He said, “Because you might as well be dead. Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.”

I feel, therefore I am.
According
to Descartes' famous dualist theory, human beings were composed of
physical bodies and immaterial minds. Spinoza disagreed. In ''The
Ethics,'' his masterwork, published after his death in 1677, he argued
that body and mind are not two separate entities but one continuous
substance.
As for Descartes' view of the mind as a reasoning
machine, Spinoza thought that was dead wrong. Reason, he insisted, is
shot through with emotion. More radical still, he claimed that thoughts
and feelings are not primarily reactions to external events but first
and foremost about the body. In fact, he suggested, the mind exists
purely for the body's sake, to ensure its survival.
For his
beliefs, Spinoza was vilified and -- for extended periods -- ignored.
Descartes, on the other hand, was immortalized as a visionary. His
rationalist doctrine shaped the course of modern philosophy and became
part of the cultural bedrock....

Sometimes my insides feel all muddled up.
If you are ever feeling overwhelmed by stress, worry, anger or fear write down at least three situations or moments you consider to be positive. Emotions are as transient as pain; write down when you notice a feeling that feels positive to you and build up a storage space of memories of feeling good that you can call upon when there is a break in the weather...

Collect and Recollect
Collect and recollect. These things I do
within, where, present with me is the world
and whatever I could think of it,
and what I have forgotten. Some things
I buried, though they seemed self-buried,
or slipped out of my mind when they had
glided further into me as I believed
them gone. Once my mouth had been aroused
by the side of a man’s thumb moving over it,
the image fixed in me by that impress
recalls the hand, or my heightening,
as if I know my lover when I have him,
or when I have no one. In this way
my mind contains my body and can keep
in mind delight, whether I revisit with the
pleasure of my body, or I revisit thinking
my sad thoughts, or I keep back my desire
like the broken animals.

Mind and Movement
Go and see this exhibition at The Welcome collection!
Wayne McGregor is well known for his physically testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations across dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science and this exhibition offers a glimpse into the process behind his work.
It beautifully shows ways in which mind and movement interact in each and every one of us. Inspiring.
